How Do You Move Past the Pain of Life's Curve Balls?

When your life is thrown a curve ball and you lose your husband at 47 years old -- what then? What about your future? How do you cope?

Kim met tall, dark, and handsome Steve Sorrelle who proposed ten days later.  It was a love story written in the heavens. They raised five children -- life was good.

Kim Sorrelle began journaling after a breast cancer diagnosis in 2009. Four months later, her husband Steve was told he had pancreatic cancer. Six weeks later, Kim held him as he took his last breath.

Kim is a writer, speaker, entrepreneur, director of a humanitarian organization, activist, mother, grandmother, lover of all people, and.....black licorice.

Kim's story will make you laugh....and cry. She is a master at sharing life's tragedies mixed with laughter.

Kim's entrepreneurial journey included commercial real estate, a golf course, catering, a grocery store, and more. Besides building businesses into multi-million-dollar companies, Kim is proud to have weathered the pandemic storm in the food industry, keeping staff employed, and seeing the company's sales grow beyond pre-pandemic numbers.

Kim is the director of Rays of Hope International, a partnering organization that works with people in their country who have a passion, a vision, and a mission to help people through business plans, fundraising, sustainability, planning, supplies, and building. Working in countries like Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Burkina Faso, Rays of Hope has enjoyed relationships with hundreds of organizations that are working to help the underserved and vulnerable population.

"Love Keeps No Record of Wrongs"

There are so many things that we do not have control over, things that we would not ever choose: cancer, losing a spouse, tragic accidents. But we can choose how we will handle these things. Joy is a choice that anyone can make but not everyone knows how. Facing cancer, becoming a widow, and losing the future, as the author saw it, made her recognize that she had to choose a way to deal with the present.

Engage with a love that transcends social experiments and leads to a radically transformed life

"Love is patient, love is kind, love is . . ." The words are so familiar they almost lack meaning, a Christianese version of "live, laugh, love." Even non-Christians are familiar with the Love chapter of 1 Corinthians, read at weddings, painted on decorative signs, and preached regularly from the pulpit. But what happens when these verses are taken seriously? What would it take for someone to live out the Love chapter as literally as possible?

That was the question Kim Sorrelle set out to answer during her yearlong experiment. Using 1 Corinthians 13 as a road map, she focused on one phrase at a time, seeking to understand its true meaning and how it could motivate every daily action. She also looked at the ones we do not think too deeply about: love does not boast, does not dishonor others, doesn't keep a record of wrongs, and more.

In her attempts to live the Love chapter to the letter, Kim journeyed all the way to Haiti, where she met people who both tested and displayed love to its limits. From irritating employees to sexist short-term missionaries to curse-wielding women to the profoundly kind nuns, her encounters are filled with rueful self-reflection and comical commentary, as well as a new understanding of the nuances and power of true love in action.

Kim's transformation into someone who truly loves like Jesus will challenge readers to think more deeply about how they can manifest love in their own lives and will reveal the power of Christlike devotion that is unwearied and humble, contented and forgiving. Her exploration is an incredible encounter with the filling, strengthening love of God -- a love that truly never fails.

Do You Know One of Medical Profession's Most Horrific Dirty Little Secrets?

ATTENTION: Anyone with back issues in need of surgery MUST read this first.

Dr. Ardavan Aslie is a board-certified spine surgeon who received his undergraduate
education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he double-majored in
physiology and genetics. He earned his MD from New York Medical College and
completed his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City while working with
some of the world's most renowned scoliosis surgeons. He received his spine surgery
fellowship training at Harvard University. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Aslie
has been active in researching and developing cutting-edge treatments for
osteoporotic and aging spines.

Dr Ardavan Aslie

Dr. Aslie's new hard-hitting exposé CORPORATE SPINE: How Spinal Surgery Went
Off Track and How We Put it Right reveals eye-opening new research into the
surprisingly common practice of using pedicle screws in spine surgery and despite
overwhelming evidence that they are practically useless and cause harm down the
road.

Seeing the money, the funding, and the support to cover up this dirty secret made me question if this was right – but I knew I had to write a book about uncovering the truth.

Each year, an estimated half-million people will undergo spinal fusion surgery in the US alone.
In most cases, surgeons will implant rods and screws into a patient’s fused vertebrae as part of the procedure. There’s just one (enormous) problem: according to the published medical literature, the screws provide little to no benefit for patients. They do, however, provide billions in profit for a handful of medical device companies.

In this meticulously researched and hard-hitting exposé, veteran California spine surgeon Ardavan Aslie, MD, sounds the alarm on this all-too-common but unproven standard of care. Despite overwhelming evidence that pedicle screws often do more harm than good, device manufacturers continue to push profits over patients. The failure of spine surgery to develop and utilize more effective surgical options has, sadly, led it to a dead end.

It doesn’t have to be this way. In
Corporate Spine, Dr. Aslie explains how spinal surgery got to this low point, how patients can protect themselves, and how spinal surgery can get back on track to help, not hurt, the estimated 16 million Americans suffering from chronic back pain. Whether this describes you or someone you know, Corporate Spine offers an illuminating report from the frontlines that will both astound and empower.

Are You Viewing Your World From a Human Perspective....Or?

Michaell Magrutsche is an Austrian/Californian multidisciplinary artist, awareness/creativity educator, speaker, and author of five books related to art. He is an advocate for helping understand neurodiversity.

Michaell's dyslexia and dysgraphia (hand-eye coordination) forced him to develop an awareness of seeing the world purely from a human perspective. Creating art completed his awareness of what it is to be human, our habitat nature, and how to be the steward for OUR habitat and the next generations.

Michaell’s talent is recognizing awareness to seed a new consciousness that allows us to unveil the untapped superpowers of human limitlessness, art/creativity, healthy discourse, and adaptability to make all humans fit within our human tapestry.

As a child, Michaell's dyslexia and dysgraphia (hand-eye coordination) he could only navigate in very few systems. Michaell was forced to find his salvation in art. Interacting and creating art outside of systems helped him feel humane and got him through life.

Michaell is completely self-taught. Art allowed him to experience life with other humans and five books later Michaell produced with Robert Evans and became a City Arts Commissioner.

He discovered that creating art is humans' greatest inherent superpower, followed by healthy dialogue and adaptability. These superpowers are applicable to everything from creativity, leadership, business, education, relationships, and what else humans focus on.

Michaell keeps unveiling the limitations of all man-made systems like technology,
science, economy, and generalized knowledge to change systems to be more human-adaptable instead of humans keep forcing themselves to be system adaptive.

This work raises our human potential instead of making us blinder and ignoring our human worth for system values. We are wasting too much life force and energy on system navigation to achieve limited system value.

Michaell’s mission is to show us something very different. We are in an unconsciousness crisis. We don’t see that all our ever-growing (financial principles)creations led us to a pivotal point of diminishing returns.

Today, we have such an overabundance of goods and services that we have become incapable of consuming. We all keep creating and marketing but besides money we don’t even have the time to sort through them, let alone the time to use or consume all those offerings that we all keep creating more and more of.

Time has become humans' most valuable thing, not money and systems that we give our life force to function. Work and tinkering can enrich our human experience to live more fulfilled lives but we unconsciously deprive ourselves of living a human life through systems, our metaverse.

This is why we have to become conscious. Humans have relinquished so much to systems, which demand more systems and more system work that our passion for human tinkering/creating has become work for money and now work to survive.

Michaell’s truth compass is our humans’ limitlessness and nature’s sense of balance. The awareness and wisdom of this focus continuously reveal our eternal knowledge of humankind and the recognition of our human potential.

That’s why there is nothing more to do but to be aware and become conscious. Understand what it means to be human, our habitat nature, and how to be the steward for OUR habitat and the next generations. When conscious, change will happen automatically.

His interview will challenge and inspire you to become the best YOU that you can be for YOURSELF.

“We could heal the world and others by being the best YOU that each can be for YOURSELF to contribute with each uniqueness seamlessly to the whole of humanity.”

Do You Feel Frustrated in your Career and NEED to Change Direction?

Sara McElroy felt helpless and hopeless in her job. She felt trapped running on the hamster wheel in her CMO role. Even though it was taking a massive toll on her health and well-being, it was everything she thought she ever wanted.  But, she was in for a surprise.

Sara McElroy is a former hustle culture devotee, ex-chief marketing officer, the Wall Street Journal’s poster girl for pandemic career burnout, and a two-time member of the Great Resignation: class of 2021 and 2022.

Sara McElroy

Following a stress-induced shingles diagnosis in early 2021, Sara decided to hit the reset button on her life; she quit her hard-won CMO job and trekked to Peru to reset her frayed nervous system. When she returned, she relocated from the buzzy metropolis of Atlanta to the beach in South Florida for a new job and a fresh start. But she once again encountered deeply ingrained cultural issues in her new role, and ultimately, she walked away again.

Raze to Rise

Finding herself in the company of millions of other women who also set unfulfilling jobs ablaze during the Great Resignation, she returned to her journalism roots and began to explore the stories, breaking points, and defining moments that led women to seek greater opportunity mid-pandemic. These conversations became the genesis of Raze to Rise – an organization created to amplify women’s voices from the Great Resignation and inspire others to blaze new trails in their own careers.

If you feel stuck or frustrated with your current career and need the courage to change direction -- Sara shares the steps in her interview:

Are You Thick-skinned and Independent But Need Help?

Tez Brooks is a multiple award-winning filmmaker, screenwriter, journalist, and author who understands the pain of sexual abuse, bullying in middle school, and then unfaithfulness and divorce.

As a former law enforcement officer and police chaplain Tez knows that the stressful position of first responders is often scary, unpredictable, and infuriating. Where do you go to refresh and refocus when the world expects you to be thick-skinned and independent?

As a multiple award-winning author, filmmaker, and international speaker,
Tez Brooks’ work appears in Guideposts, Power for Living, The Upper Room, CBN.com, Clubhouse, Focus on the Family, Cru.org and more. His editorials are featured regularly and seen by over 30k readers each month. He is the president of two chapters for Word Weavers International.

First responders have one of the highest percentages of addiction, divorce, and suicide. As a police chaplain, Tez experienced the trauma of first responders and the need for hope. Tez' story is an encouragement for anyone and especially those who work as first responders.

Tez Brooks

Debriefing: Meditations of Hope for Those Who Protect and Serve is a collection of real-life experiences helping cops, correction officers, chaplains, and others to see God’s hand in all they do, so they can better understand His loving care for those working the challenging and dangerous job of first responder.

It’s time to debrief.

The stressful position of first responders is often scary, unpredictable, and infuriating. Where do you go to refresh and refocus when the world expects you to be thick-skinned and independent? It can be difficult to balance your physical, emotional, and spiritual health, along with your social and family life, as you focus on your role to protect the public. It’s easy to forget the bigger purpose God has for you.

Single Dad Detour

Conventional wisdom holds that fathers have few parenting skills and that mothers always know best. The single father is often considered a mythical creature, found only in sitcoms as an object of humor or pity. Where does that leave real single dads? Too often, it makes them susceptible to overcompensation or apathy.

Tez Brooks knows those feelings all too well. He's traveled that road with his own children after an unexpected divorce. The Single Dad Detour is the result of his journey and the lessons he learned along the way. It is a guidebook for the rocky road of single fatherhood, extending encouragement, confidence, and challenges, using specific examples from dads who have survived parenting and have hope to offer.

There are no unreachable requirements for perfect fatherhood here and no twisty theological mysteries - just authentic, down-to-earth wisdom from one dad to another.

How Do I Cope with the Guilt of Working Mom Burnout?

Have you – or someone you know – had ‘working mother’ burnout?

Dr. Susan Landers is a neonatologist who worked full-time in the NICU for over 30 years and raised three children. She achieved many academic and professional accomplishments, and she encountered challenges along the way, both in her career and in her mothering.

She achieved many academic and professional accomplishments, and she encountered challenges along the way, both in her career and in her mothering. Susan suffered through one difficult period during her midlife, after the birth of her third child, that propelled her to make specific choices and a career change.

Working Mom Burnout

She loves to share stories that reassure younger mothers to know that they, too, can become  “good enough mothers” even if they work full-time. She supports mothers with her social media posts, her blog, and her newsletter.

Are you trying to be a "Super Mom" or a good mother? During her interview, Dr. Landers shares how to identify and recover from working mother burnout:

So Many Babies describes one overworked physician-mother as she journeys through medicine and motherhood raising three children.

While practicing medicine in the NICU full time for over thirty years, Susan Landers, MD met and managed many trials raising her three children, trials typical for many working mothers, such as breastfeeding, sibling rivalry, bedwetting, dyslexia, a gifted child, ADHD, a dog bite, and an adolescent eating disorder. The challenges of full-time practice and many twenty-four-hour shifts in the high-stress NICU always complicated issues with Susan’s children but also provided her the privilege of caring for thousands of critically ill newborn infants.

Susan always felt that her career and accomplishments in medicine were equally as rewarding as raising three children. It was the constant attempt to balance these two worlds – physician and mother - that was so daunting a task. Susan believes that most, if not all, working mothers are similarly challenged as they attempt to manage their work and being a good mother. So Many Babies describes Susan’s experiences of finding resilience and endurance throughout her career as a physician and mother. It is an entertaining and reassuring story for working mothers.
